Willywombat Posted 28 December , 2013 Share Posted 28 December , 2013 Just a (hopefully) quick query, if I may: In an officer's service record I have found a copy of his attestation form from when he originally enlisted as a Private soldier. His signature has been witnessed by one of his old schoolfriends (I recognise the name) but this has been crossed out and another signature that I don't recognise written alongside. I have since discovered that the schoolfriend had himself attested only the day before. Did the fact that the friend was technically now a soldier disqualify him from being a witness to another man's enlistment? Any advice appreciated and thanks in advance, Bob. Longboat Posted 28 December , 2013 Share Posted 28 December , 2013 Bob, My own grandfathers attestation form was witnessed by one of his comrades who includes his rank in his signature, this was in late 1915. Stuart
Willywombat Posted 4 January , 2014 Author Share Posted 4 January , 2014 Stuart, Thanks for that - sorry not to have replied earlier. Interesting. I wonder why his mate's signature was crossed out? They were great schoolmates and served together until one of them was commissioned.
