Remembered Today:

Cumberland, Westmorland, NW Lancs hospitals

I was recently sent a copy of a book uncovered by Terry Dean (North Lancs WFA) in a local archive, which is an account of VAD hospitals in Cumberland, Westmorland and North-west Lancashire during the Great War. It includes staff lists for more than thirty hospitals in the area which were active during the Great War, not only VADs, but also many other volunteers in various occupations, both men and women. I've now extracted more than 2,400 names and put them in a spreadsheet, searchable of course.

There are, as might be expected, a lot of people identified only by surname, or surname and one initial, so not always possible to be sure of identity. If anyone has an interest in any of the hospitals in that area, or anyone who might have worked there, I will extract anything that's needed.

Have just spotted your post re the hospitals in Cumberland and Westmorland during the war.

You say that you have listed over 30 such places

My list is a lot shorter, actually only 10

Would be grateful for the list that you have (hospitals only = not staff members!!

Thanks in advance
