Skipman Posted 20 December , 2013 Share Posted 20 December , 2013 Have just flicked through this, but it looks like a cracking read? Starts of as a Territorial Force soldier, then commissioned into The Guards (i think) Iron times with the Guards " Occasionally a Territorial battalion would pass in the street one of the " Kitchener " units. Their respective manners were amusing, for criticism of the unsoldierly appearance on one side was met with good-humoured toleration of the "irregular" branch of the Service on the other. charlesmessenger Posted 20 December , 2013 Share Posted 20 December , 2013 Yes, it is an interesting read. I have a copy of the original edition published in 1918. It covers the author's experiences up to and including spring 1917 and service with the 3rd Coldstream and Guards Entrenching Battalion. Charles M.
