Jacksmum Posted 15 December , 2013 Share Posted 15 December , 2013 My uncle has recently died aged 98 and amongst his effects is a medal...on one side is a laurel wreath inside which is a lion and a rose and "Hampshire 1917"...on the reverse is "Marching Competition" As his father was wading through Passchendaele in 1917 it cannot be Grandfather's. I wondered if anyone could shed light on this please, could it be awarded to a cadet or perhaps a Scout? Many thanks, Jacksmum.
sotonmate Posted 18 December , 2013 Share Posted 18 December , 2013 Jacksmum I have been reading a Hampshire Regt account from the Front in early 1918.Don't think that they didn't have marching competitions whilst resting from the Front Line, there is a ref for Feb which gives the Platoon winners of such a competition. http://www.dalyhistory.wordpress.com/tag/hampshire-regiment/
