I have my Uncle Edward's Memorial Plaque.

It has a 39 by the left hind leg, a large EC with smaller DP in front of right forepaw and a W within a circle stamped on the back.

Judging from previous queries, the 39 is the Batch Number, the W on the reverse is the Woolwich foundry, but what does the ECDP stand for?

Welcome to the forum.

The letters you can see are, in fact:

ECrP which stand for Edward Carter Preston (1885 - 1965). He was the Liverpool medallist/sculptor/artist who, as Pyramus, won the national competition to design the memorial plaque; the entrants could not compete using their real names.

The winner was allowed to have his/her initials placed on the plaques. ECrP also designed many other medals for the armed services.
