Is Patrick still in Ypres ?

I only ask because in another thread it is mentioned that his book shop 'The Shell Ole' is being converted into another Chocolate shop or had he already relocated, as I have not made it to Ypres this year I wouldn't know if he had moved or not.

I met Patrik, his usual friendly and knowledgeable self, in August. He was still in his shop but maybe moving. WE WILL CERTAINLY MISS HIM!!!!. It would be good to keep in touch with such a character--an amazing source of knowledge and contacts.!

I was in his shop a couple of weeks ago, and noticed that he didn't have one bit of militaria on display in his window. it made me wonder if he was closing or moving.

The Shell Hole has gone as has Patrick. The shop is now a beer/choc/tourist shop.

Patrick now has another life and if he wishes to post where, what, etc I am sure he will!.

Thats life and retail will survive if there is a demand. I would have thought that an internet site would have been a better bet for the excellent books that Patrick had in the shop when last I had the pleasure to visit.

Well that's a shame, another of my regular stopping points gone. Spent many an hour or two browsing the stock in both formats of the 'Shell Ole' ( John's & Patrick's) and have always come away with something and at a reasonable price.

In fact one year brought that much I had three friends help me carry it back to our hotel, did get an odd glance or two.

Went there yesterday, definitely shut and is in the process of being converted into a specialist chocolate/beer shop. Nothing to say where he has gone to either. A decent shop disappearing again to be replaced by even more confectionary

I'm very disappointed to hear this. I was in the Shell Hole only a few months ago and whilst I noticed that it was a little light on stock I didn't get to speak with Patrik as there were a number of locals in the shop who chatting with him. I purchased a few shell fuses and 2 relic P1907 bayonets there 4-5 years ago and that was the start of my interest in collecting WW1 bayonets and militaria. These are still treasured items - especially the 1907 that was found on Broodseinde Ridge. I hope all is well with Patrik and I would be very interested to know if he sets up somewhere else.

Sorry to hear this. Only went there once, when taking a school trip, but remember it well as he could not have been more forbearing or more helpful

What a pity his shop is leaving Ypres, it was one of my 'must visit' locations on every trip.

Another bland chocolate shop ? yawn..................................................

Patrick's Shell Hole shop opposite the cloth hall had indeed gone but life goes on, including Patrick's wherever it leads him. As for his old shop, beer chocs and tourist stuff will soon follow......

Just bumped into Patrick and had a pleasant chat. He is well and is continuing with his work and life and is without doubt most happy with his new life!

Here is his old "Shell Hole" shop, full of beers, chocs and biscuits about an hour ago.......

Hello dear people from this forum,

First of all: my excuses for my long silence & the moments of uncertainty.

I'm still in business and working out of my homestead.

This decision I took for 2 reasons:

First of all I took this decision for economic reasons (most of my business & earnings came outside of the shop, most of my costs were the shop).

Secondly, Ypres is changing into a town that is not me anymore.

The best way to get contact with me is giving me a ring on my phone (yes, I'm terrible in following up my emails), or just drop by my house in Boezinge (coffee is hot, welcome & free if I'm there).

These are my details:

Patrik Indevuyst

The Shell Hole Bookshop

Diksmuidseweg 319

8904 Boezinge

+32 472 47 75 54

You can also look on www.delcampe.net where I'm selling under the name TRIGS.

Kind regards,

Patrik from The Shell Hole
