These have been on the fireplace for many years, I am told they are shell cases, but what are they ?

I have added the Grenade for scale

I have not seen anything like them before. Are there any markings on the bases????

Being copper and brass they look suspiciously like metal candlesticks. I hope I am wrong.

Thanks Sepoy

I searched many pages trying to compare these with shell casings and then did another search for brass/copper candlesticks and could not find anything there either.

They are probably 'spill holders'. Often seen on mantlepieces years ago. certainly not of military origin

Usually single objects - a pair suggests candlesticks
