alastaircox Posted 19 November , 2013 Share Posted 19 November , 2013 I picked up these today, taking a punt on the recipient.... WEC Coombs, RAF 1919. Flight Lieutenant Wilfred Coombs, joined the RFC in 1916 aged 20, wounded a year later but still flying in 1923. Re-joined the RAFVR in 1940! He was a local lad, so I'm thrilled to give these a home. topgun1918 Posted 20 November , 2013 Share Posted 20 November , 2013 According to what I've got, Coombs was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) on 21 June 1917, confirmed in rank on 9 November 1917 and wounded whilst with No 52 Squadron on 26 September 1918. alastaircox Posted 21 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 21 November , 2013 Misread the script, yes 2nd Lt. Also hospitalised 22-04-18, presumably illness. Is he someone you have an interest in?
topgun1918 Posted 21 November , 2013 Share Posted 21 November , 2013 Hi Alastair No special interest - his name popped up in my casualty database and I trawled through my copies of Flight to see if there was any additional information; that's all that I came across.
