Natjam Posted 13 November , 2013 Share Posted 13 November , 2013 Hi Can anyone tell me where I can research WW1 cartoons? The attached picture was drawn of my great grandfather at Mametz in 1916. Just wondering who might have drawn it - it is signed in the bottom right hand corner. Any help much appreciated! N
seaJane Posted 14 November , 2013 Share Posted 14 November , 2013 There is a book called "World War I in Cartoons" (can't remember the author, sorry) and another by Frank Huggett called "Cartoonists at War" which is not specific to WW1. The latter is available cheap on Amazon although depending on its postage and your library's charges for inter-library loans, it may be cheaper to borrow especially as there's no guarantee they'll have the answer. I can't quite make out the signature - is it the initials HLR?
Natjam Posted 14 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 14 November , 2013 Great! Thank you. I've attached a close-up of the signature - yes, HLR by the looks of things. Anybody know a cartoonist with those initials?
