kenora Posted 9 November , 2013 Share Posted 9 November , 2013 Hello, I wonder does anyone know where the 10th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers were based at the beginning of November 1917 ? I am researching a relative and have a letter he wrote from the trenches on 2nd November. I'd love to find out where he was when he wrote it. I know the 10th were at Cambrai later in the month but can't seem to find confirmation as to where they were at the start of the month. I'd be very grateful for any pointers. Many thanks Shane

Colin W Taylor Posted 11 November , 2013 Share Posted 11 November , 2013 Shane I have a copy of the war diary from Kew. The war diary has them at Hamelincourt on the 1st and they relieved a battalion in the front line in the left brigade sector which was near Lump Lane facing Fontaine-les-Croisilles. That would be where they were on the 2nd. They were in the same area on 20th November (not at Cambrai) but delivered a diversionary attack for that offensive on that date. Kind regards Colin

kenora Posted 11 November , 2013 Author Share Posted 11 November , 2013 That's fantastic guys thanks a million.! Poor old Harry sounded very glum in the letter, completely sick of the war. He's giving out about the endless shelling but the diary notes the 2nd was fairly quiet. Shane
