flers1916 Posted 3 November , 2013 Share Posted 3 November , 2013 I understand that there are plans to commemorate the first use of tanks on the attack on Flers-Courcelette on the 15th September 1916 as described in Trevor Pidgeon's excellent 2 volume publication 'The Tanks at Flers'. Does anyone have any information about whether a commemoration is being planned and in what form it is proposed to take? Graham
Gareth Davies Posted 3 November , 2013 Share Posted 3 November , 2013 Graham The RTR plan to commemorate the first use of tanks in Flers in 2016. The exact plan is still being worked on but it will hopefully include soldiers from the current Regiment and hopefully a replica Mk I tank (or maybe a replica MkIV disguised as a Mk I). delta Posted 4 November , 2013 Share Posted 4 November , 2013 The RTR celebrations are planned to take place over the weekend of 17-18 June. I am aware of two separate but coordinated events taking place On the actual centenary (15 September), I will be leading a visit for members of the First Tank Crews website with a second day on 16th. Any one in the area is of course welcome to join us.
