Hugh Pattenden Posted 28 October , 2013 Share Posted 28 October , 2013 Hi, Can anyone help me find the service file numbers for the following men? Lieutenant Edward Spearing, 1/4th King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) (T.F.) Second Lieutenant Donald Neil Campbell Ross, 'D' Battery, 46th Brigade, RFA Lieutenant Alwyn Ronald MacFarlane-Grieve, 1/8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (T.F.) I've searched through the National Archives catalogue but to no avail. All of these men were killed in the War so their files (if they exist) should be at the NA in Kew. Any help would be gratefully appreciated Hugh.
stuart714 Posted 28 October , 2013 Share Posted 28 October , 2013 Hugh There is a E Spearing WO339/113691 Re D N C Ross - all I could find was his medal card. Possibly papers doesn't survive. Re Macfarlane-Grieve - found his medal card but no papers. Stuart
sotonmate Posted 28 October , 2013 Share Posted 28 October , 2013 No hits in either WO339 or WO374 for ARM-G.Checked both as a double - barrel, and the two singly. If someone here could check the WO338 Index it might reveal a hiding place ! DNC Ross file is WO339/82911.

He is listed under Grieve and has a P number. It also showws he won an MC. Scratch that. That is Angus Alexander Macfarlane Grieve - a brother? Hugh Pattenden Posted 28 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 28 October , 2013 Thanks for this. AAM-G is indeed a brother. Frustrating! Hugh.
