Steven Broomfield Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 I happened to be in the Winchester Book Shop this afternoon (it was raining, OK) and saw the above book for sale at £50. Not my cup of tea (and as I bought a History of the Royal Dragoons for £60 I wasn't in the mood to risk too many explanations at home), but it occurred to me there might be an interest. The attached link has contact details: http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/winchester-book-shop-winchester The book is in very good nick. I should add I have no pecuniary interest in any transaction! archangel9 Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 Sounds like a bargain going by Abe - http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=3rd+London+General+Hospital+gazette US$ 416.27 John
Sue Light Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 I've got the bound editions, Volumes 1 and 2, which cover the period from the outbreak of war to September 1917. I paid £9 for the pair about eight years ago, so can now rely on them when pensions fail! Also have a copy of 'Happy though Wounded' which includes some of the extracts from the monthly editions in a special volume - that cost not more than pennies at the time. SiegeGunner Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 Does the Gazette contain any artwork by CRW (Richard) Nevinson, Sue? He was an RAMC orderly at Wandsworth for some time in 1916 and later an official war artist.
Sue Light Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 Yes, there's a great deal of his work in there. I've got a few examples on the 3rd London blog (which will be resurrected at some time) - if you use the search box near the top of this page with 'Nevinson' they will come up: 3rd London General Quite a few of the reproductions of his work don't scan very well from the book. SiegeGunner Posted 27 October , 2013 Share Posted 27 October , 2013 Many thanks, Sue. I will take another look at the blog and look forward to its resurrection (but isn't that Stanley Spencer ....).
