Remembered Today:

Regimental Numbers link to Batallions

I am researching a Private called Albert Charles Bown (b1895 in Frome - d1953 in Nottingham). According to his Medal Card his regimental numbers were:

Royal Sussex Regiment Regimental Number: 20792 and The Queen’s Regiment Regimental Number: G/69272

There really is no prefix letter before his RSR number. Local Record offices etc have not been able to help.

I do not know when he joined up, which batallions he was in, why he was transferred or when he was demobilised. After the war he came an Art Master at Epsom College, Surrey (1922-1948) and during WWII he worked on Kenneth Clarke's Recording Britain art scheme.

Any help would be most gratefully received.

All will be revealed if you look into the actual Medal Roll Books, and in your case you need to look at those for the Queens Regt, being the last unit he was to serve with, using the code on the MIC. All previous Battalions served with and the cause of his Discharge will be in there.

If you're really lucky someone on here may already have the information.
