David Lea Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Good Morning Could anyone help with an ID for the below cap badge please? Not sure but it looks a bit like a 'Fleur de lis'? I was thinking the main photograph was of my grandfather who served with the Royal Artillery but it doesn't look like a RA badge to me? Many thanks David
mrjustinhayward Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 15th London regiment, prince of Wales own civil service rifles perhaps? Justin H
Blackblue Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Manchesters post 1920. Did he serve post war? 7th Manchesters also wore a FDL during WW1.
David Lea Posted 26 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Thanks Justin H and Blackblue My Grandad did serve post war but with 49th Reserve Battery RFA and section B Army Reserve, which makes me think it can't be him and must be someone else if it's the Manchesters? This is the full photo which looked like a training camp photo to me?
mrjustinhayward Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Clearly a fleur de Lys in the full picture- sorry Justin H

David Lea Posted 26 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Thanks again everyone, I now need to try and work out what family significance this photo may have if it's not my grandfather! Cheers David
Old Owl Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 Definitely either, 7th(Ardwick)Bn Manchester Regt., who I believe wore the badge from 1908-1921, or Manchester Regt post 1923.
Sepoy Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 I think this is going to be post war Manchester Regiment, because a couple of guys are wearing WW1 medal ribbons. Equally if it was a war time photo of the 8th (Ardwick) Battalion, "T 8 Manchester" shoulder titles would have been evident. Sepoy
Steven Broomfield Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 I agree with Sepoy. (Well, I think he's bigger than me).
Sepoy Posted 26 October , 2013 Share Posted 26 October , 2013 I agree with Sepoy. (Well, I think he's bigger than me). I would like you to know that I have lost a lot of weight this year. I am now only "Short, Plump, and Balding with glasses". Sepoy

SilverFox100 Posted 28 October , 2013 Share Posted 28 October , 2013 Having found a badge now that was not in my book, agree it is the Ardwick 8th Battalion Manchester reg. looks nice in the photo on eBay. Mike
Sepoy Posted 28 October , 2013 Share Posted 28 October , 2013 It is a standard post WW1 Manchester Regiment cap badgehttp://www.mycollectors.co.uk/Image-Viewer.aspx?ProductID=1175 in comparison to the Ardwick version which is ornatehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-8TH-ARDWICK-BATTALION-THE-MANCHESTER-REGIMENT-CAP-BADGE-100-ORIGINAL-/131022717516 The chap standing in the middle of the photo is wearing the WW1 medal ribbons, as is the guy standing on the left edge of the photo. Also if it was wartime and the Ardwick Battalion they would probably be wearing T 8 Manchester shoulder titles. Sepoy
