ph0ebus Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 Hi all, Another newly identified relative who fell in the Great War: Michael Hayum, born 13 February 1881 in Kirf, Germany; he joined with Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 28, and was killed in action on May 9, 1916. His VL entry can be viewed here: http://des.genealogy.net/search/show/3932772 His entry in Weltkriegsopfer can be viewed here: http://www.weltkriegsopfer.de/Kriegsopfer-Michel-Hayum_Soldaten_0_470763.html He has no known grave, ber Volksbund. My question to my fellow pals is posed in an effort to understand the circumstances of his death. Is IR 28 the same unit as "Infanterie-Regiment von Goeben (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28"? If so, that would make things a little clearer in terms of what I need to be looking at in 'Histories' and in my effort to find a Unit History. Thanks, -Daniel
AOK4 Posted 25 October , 2013 Share Posted 25 October , 2013 Hello, IR 28 is indeed Infanterie-Regiment von Goeben (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28. I quickly checked the regimental history: nothing mentioned on 9 May 1916... Jan

ph0ebus Posted 25 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 25 October , 2013 Jan, Per the wiki for Infanterie-Regiment von Goeben (2. Rheinisches) Nr. 28, they were: 1916 to 28 July --- fighting on the Aisne in Nouvron-Vingré Does that line up with the UH? If so, I guess that is probably about as specific as we'll get. -Daniel
