PhilB Posted 24 September , 2004 Share Posted 24 September , 2004 During WW1, a fair number of new badges appeared. (There must have been 100 or so) What was the system for designing a new badge? Did the CO doodle it on the back of an envelope or was there a more sophisticated system? Did the badge stampers have designers to advise and assist? Did the War Office have the final say? Anybody know? Phil B
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 24 September , 2004 Share Posted 24 September , 2004 Presumably from a number of Sources,Some would have had prescribed designs or inclusions already designated by the nature of the units, some took County badges,Aristocratic Heraldic Devices{eg:Liverpool Pals},Badge manufacturers would have had designers to assist, etc,Once the design was established "Sealed~Patterns" were kept by the War Office, occasionally these find there way onto the open market & often differ from the Badge ultimately worn{The Sealed Patterns were often not "Sealed" until long after the Badges were being worn}
