I`m not sure about why the the words on his headstone is French.I have made up my mind to visit Bethune,maybe next year.I have been in contact with Captain Mahonys grandson who now lives in US and was kind to give me more "privat information" about his grandfather.Captain Mahonys grand daughter now lives in Dundee Scotland.She was more uncomfortable when l asked her about her grandfather unwilling to give me much information or a picture of him,giving me the impression she was a little "high nosed".
