Guest FRANKBARTHOLOMEW Posted 21 April , 2003 Share Posted 21 April , 2003 I have recently come across a photograph of Field Marshall Haig, and I've noticed that he is wearing the 1911 Coronation Medal at the 'beginning' of his ribbons (where Gallantry Decorations and such go). Can anyone please account for this anomaly, as I'm sure that the Order of Wear is: 1. Decorations (e.g. VC, CB, DSO and MC) 2. Campaign Medals 3. Coronation and Jubilee Medals 4. Long Service and Good Conduct Medals 5. Foreign Medals and Decorations Anyone who can help, please put me out of my misery. Guest Hill 60 Posted 21 April , 2003 Share Posted 21 April , 2003 Before WWI, Coronation and Jubilee medals took precedence over 'war' medals.
Guest FRANKBARTHOLOMEW Posted 22 April , 2003 Share Posted 22 April , 2003 Lee, Thanks for that. This one has (or had) been bugging me ever since I saw the photograph of Field Marshall Haig on the front of his Biography. Frank Bartholomew
Guest Hill 60 Posted 22 April , 2003 Share Posted 22 April , 2003 Frank - No problem There were many Officers (and men) who kept their medals in the old order of precedence and these can still be seen in mounted medal groups on the market today.
