Foster88 Posted 17 October , 2013 Share Posted 17 October , 2013 I've recently acquired a WW1 victory medal and as I've seen many times before it has his regimental number but letters after it, I've added the exact text below. Does the 'DA' refer to his rank? If anybody is able to decipher what this means I'd be grateful as I like to research him. 4124 DA W.POTTER. D.H. R.N.R Possibly Royal naval reserve, but what does the rest mean? Is his regimental number unusually low?
IPT Posted 17 October , 2013 Share Posted 17 October , 2013 D.H. is presumably Deck Hand. You can download his record here - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D8511665 DA may indicate the trawler section.
