captain barker Posted 15 October , 2013 Share Posted 15 October , 2013 my great uncle was invalided out of the war in 1917 I think, his name was harold barker, royal field artillery 168th brigade No:L/25428 does anyone have any information on this please
ralphjd Posted 15 October , 2013 Share Posted 15 October , 2013 Nothing in the "burnt records" that have survived for him to suggest he was discharged in 1917, he was released to Army Class Z in March 1920 address 19 Rosedale Terrace, Shield Field Newcastle. Medical classification in 1917 as C3, 50% deaf. Ralph.
captain barker Posted 15 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 15 October , 2013 So does this mean he was still in the army between 1917 and 1919 and if so still with the same regiment, did is deafness affect where he serves?
ralphjd Posted 15 October , 2013 Share Posted 15 October , 2013 Yes, still serving up to 1919 same 168th Brigade, the deafness reference is noted a page as to how much pension he was entitled to, do not think it has anything to do with where he served, but could be wrong. Regards. Ralph.
captain barker Posted 17 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 17 October , 2013 If this is true why does it say discharged 29-5-1917 on one of his service papers?
ralphjd Posted 17 October , 2013 Share Posted 17 October , 2013 He served for almost 5 years May 1915 - March 1920. I will have another look at this date. Ralph.
ralphjd Posted 17 October , 2013 Share Posted 17 October , 2013 I am fairly sure that this date refers to him being discharged from hospital, not the service.
