Lt Percy Morris was a member of the expatriate community in Valparaiso, Chile and came with his brother, and a number of others, to enlist at the start of the War. He first joined 2nd King Edward's Horse and was then attached to the 1st Buffs before starting his flying career on the 11th September 1916.

After service in 56 Sqn he was posted to 59 Sqn.

On the 24th Jan 1917 he was posted to - what looks like on his service record - as being EF 8 Sqdn (flying BE 2 c)

I would be grateful for any information about this pilot, the circumstances of his death - and in particular a clue to what the E.F. 8 (??) squadron might be!

Many thanks

Alan

EF = Expeditionary Force (i.e. RFC in France) and he was with 8 Squadron, which flew BE2s - mainly BE2e/f/g by spring 1917. The only mention of him in my BE file is:

A2850 At Bristol 12.2.1917 allotted to EF France. 1 AD St Omer by 1.3.1917 listed as BE2g. 2 AD Candas dd ex 1 AD 13.3.1917. 8 Sqn Soncamp LIA near Wancourt 1.5.1917 (2Lt EP Morris/Lt VR Pfrimmer killed when brought down by shellfire – engine E1099/WD5250). 2 AD for deletion 3.6.1917.

I see Mick has beaten me to it with regard to explanation of "EF".

Morris gained his "ticket", number 3926, on 4 December 1916.

He and his observer, Lt Valentine Ralph Pfrimmer, were shot down and killed on 1 May 1917 in BE2e A2850.
