researchingreg Posted 5 October , 2013 Share Posted 5 October , 2013 I know that some Motorised Machine Gun Corps did not wear puttees (using leather gaiters instead) and I assume some kilt wearing regiments did not wear them with kilts. Were there other Corps and Regiments that just wore trousers without puttees as battle dress?

Most kilted regiments went to war wearing spats with shoes, but by the end of 1914 had begun to change to boots and short puttees due to supply issues and the fact they were rather better suited to muddy conditions. Stoppage Drill Posted 5 October , 2013 Share Posted 5 October , 2013 Tank Corps wore dungarees, blue in 1916 but brown by 1917. These were only used when "tanking" as an overall, sometimes with an SD jacket over the top. Otherwise they would wear a conventional uniform with puttees.
