wulsten Posted 4 October , 2013 Share Posted 4 October , 2013 Can anyone help to locate the area of Vimy Support Berthonval, im researching a chap who served with the 1st Kings, he was with the battalion when killed 25th June 1916, he is buried in Cambrin Cem, however references to Berthonval appear to be some distance away any help to confirm where the battalion was would be appreciated, Geoff Unfortunately there are no map references in the war diary entry that i have though it does also mention cabaret rouge on the 18th June ? ulsterlad2 Posted 4 October , 2013 Share Posted 4 October , 2013 Wulsten, Berthonval Wood and Locality are given as the area close to Carency. On the trench map the Berthonval Locality is said to be in squares 22, 23 and 29. The trench 'Caberet Road' in 21, 22 & 23 is called 'Caberet Rouge' in a later map. wulsten Posted 4 October , 2013 Author Share Posted 4 October , 2013 Thanks for the images, the location ties with the LLT info on the 1st Kings which locate them near Souchez during the first part of June 1916, it just seems to be quite a distance from Cambrin cemetery as the chap im researching is listed as Killed in action, though its seems more likely that he died of wounds, war diary records also 11 casualties through shell fire any other thoughts or info would again be greatly appreciated, Geoff
