Remembered Today:

4th and 5th Royal Scots

Hi All,

I wonder if any one can help me.

The normal battalions of the Royal Scots had 2 cap badges, one for officers and one for other ranks. As the 4th and 5th were the Queen's Edinburgh Rifles the other ranks had a different cap badge. My question is, did the officers wear the traditional officers badge, the 4/5th badge or a special variant?

All the best,

Tim

They wore the TF Badge in Silver & Enamel or SD in Bronze

Thanks for the reply. I was just thinking about it last night and could not work it out. Oh well, another badge to try and find!!! :D

Excuse my ignorance, but what does SD stand for? - standard?

Many thanks,

Tim

Service Dress I knew - but had no idea that the Royal Scots wore a bronzed version of their cap badge and so it confused me. The collar dogs, on SDs that I have seen, are nearly alway bronzed - except for the notable excpetion of Horace Proctor-Beauchamp of the 5th Norfolks who wore silver collar dogs and it was this special trait of his that allowed his body to be identified.

Thanks for your help,

Tim
