brindlerp Posted 22 September , 2004 Share Posted 22 September , 2004 Hi Malcolm, Could you please let me know the source of your map (with woods). Is it part of a larger map and if so, what area does it cover? My particular interest in it regards the area where the 7th Division fought in October and November 1914. Malcolm Posted 23 September , 2004 Share Posted 23 September , 2004 Richard, It is part of a schematic of the Ypres area from ' I Was There ' however I have a 1:10,000 trench map for the Hooge area of December 1915 which I can scan in parts for you if you want as well as the full schematic. Guest Benoit Douville Posted 14 December , 2004 Share Posted 14 December , 2004 Was Hill 62 the site of a World War I Battle? If so, I would like to have more info about it. Regards
Aurel Sercu Posted 14 December , 2004 Share Posted 14 December , 2004 Benoit, The Battle of Mount Sorrel in June 1916. But I really wouldn't know how to start about it. Right now, a bit desperately, I am looking at pages 85 - 96 in Nigel Cave, Sanctuary Wood & Hooge (series Battleground Europe), but I really wish I had some summary from another source. "More info" is a bit vague and so all-comprehensive I'm afraid. Maybe other forum members can help ? Aurel
jhill Posted 14 December , 2004 Share Posted 14 December , 2004 According to Nicholson, Hill 62 was also known as Tor Top. If you do not have easy access to his account of the Mount Sorrel business, it is available as a free download (although the site seems wobbly right now 14DEC04). The address I have used is this: http://www.forces.gc.ca/hr/dhh/publication...ine_e.asp?cat=

Guest Benoit Douville Posted 15 December , 2004 Share Posted 15 December , 2004 Hi all, I really appreciate all the info. I am glad to know that it was the Canadian under General Currie who took Mount Sorrel and Hill 62 on june 13 1916 after a lot of failure before. 8 430 casualties is really high, those brave soldiers have all my respect. If someone have more info about this really interesting Battle don't hesitate to post it. Best Regards
