Wow thanks all, extremely interesting and even more so as we were barely aware of his existence 2 weeks ago. Obviously they were both young but I can’t seem to find a record of how long he’d been in the army for/any previous postings etc. where would be the best place for that information? Would it be in the Royal Artillery records somewhere? Thank you everyone.

There's a clever calculation done by @ss002d6252 Craig that uses the gratuity paid as recorded on Soldiers effects.(ancestry).

Can you post the extract from that Soldiers Effects please? @Amk86

Other records do not appear to have survived although there may be a Pension card
