Steven Broomfield Posted 29 October , 2016 Share Posted 29 October , 2016 Shame everyone keeps calling him 'Trooper' Potts. As Guests posts indicate, Potts was, of course, a Private.
Moonraker Posted 29 October , 2016 Share Posted 29 October , 2016 True. Cue for someone to ponder how he came to be known as "Trooper", and called thus by many supposedly authoritative organisations. "Trooper Potts" does sound better than "Private Potts". Moonraker

Moonraker Posted 14 July , 2019 Share Posted 14 July , 2019 Pub to be renamed the Victoria Cross A couple of times a month, I lunch at a rather swish hotel opposite the Trooper Potts memorial, next to which I await the arrival of my guest. I continue to admire the detail of the sculpture. (My friend, however, is more taken with the nearby Maiwand Lion but then she is felinely zoomorphic.) Moonraker Posted 7 August , 2019 Share Posted 7 August , 2019 I went pass the pub today and winced. Very stark and modern, more like a car showroom (of which there are several in the neighbourhood). Photo Moonraker
