Shame everyone keeps calling him 'Trooper' Potts. As Guests posts indicate, Potts was, of course, a Private.

True. Cue for someone to ponder how he came to be known as "Trooper", and called thus by many supposedly authoritative organisations. "Trooper Potts" does sound better than "Private Potts".

Pub to be renamed the Victoria Cross

 

A couple of times a month, I lunch at a rather swish hotel opposite the Trooper Potts memorial, next to which I await the arrival of my guest. I continue to admire the detail of the sculpture.

 

(My friend, however, is more taken with the nearby Maiwand Lion but then she is felinely zoomorphic.)

I went pass the pub today and winced. Very stark and modern, more like a car showroom (of which there are several in the neighbourhood).
