roselyn2 Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Can any member tell me, what's the bar on the Victory ?. Thank you. Lyn.
Coldstreamer Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 are we talking British issue ? There was no bar - could it be a MID emblem ?
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Or if it is British has the bar which should be on a 1914 Star been put on the wrong medal?
royalredcross Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 There is no bar on a British Victory medal. Can you describe what you have ? NGG
Coldstreamer Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 or a picture would be good - could be a bar for the BWM if naval - lots of what ifs and possibilities
roselyn2 Posted 16 September , 2013 Author Posted 16 September , 2013 I'm sorry but the picture failed. For some reason I can't downsize the photo. Lyn
ulsterlad2 Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 I think that the United States version of the Victory Medal could have 'campaign' bars on it.
roselyn2 Posted 16 September , 2013 Author Posted 16 September , 2013 The medal is a British Victory to 118229 GNR. D. W. THOMAS. R. A. Lyn.
Khaki Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Hello David, I think we need to know more about 'the bar' and what's on it rather than the medal, certainly it shouldn't be there officially. You have us intrigued khaki
roselyn2 Posted 16 September , 2013 Author Posted 16 September , 2013 Can someone send me his email address so that I can send him/her the picture. Then could size it for me. Thank you. Lyn.
Coldstreamer Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 pm sent as I have enough spam without reminding the world I have email and I get to look first !!!!!
asanewt Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Lyn, apologies if this talks down to you. May be useful next time. Once you have the items on your PC if you have Microsoft Picture Manager it can easily be used to size each image to suit the Forum limit of 250kb. Right click the image then "open with" choose MS Pic. Mngr. Once open, top right, left click "edit pictures" You may now want to use the other limited enhancing tools, or, Right side menu choose "compress". the menu now gives application options, docs., web, etc. and the file size of the original image Click the option giving the largest file consistent with 250 kb limit You may now want to "save as" using a new name or add comp to the existing in case you need it again. You should now be able attach the image to a post via "Choose Files" button at bottom left of New Post.
centurion Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Or much easier just use this online service http://www.resize2mail.com/

Khaki Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 Just describe the 'bar' that should be sufficient! khaki
Coldstreamer Posted 16 September , 2013 Posted 16 September , 2013 we will need to wait a while longer as Ive not had an email and going to sleep soon
Coldstreamer Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 pic of medal - british issue - no idea what the emblem is though - - Id guess masonic
roselyn2 Posted 17 September , 2013 Author Posted 17 September , 2013 Thank you Coldstreamer for your help with the picture. Lyn.
centurion Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 May be the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes - many ex WW1 service men joined them and the square loops looks like one of their symbols
bruce Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 More likely Buffaloes....certainly not Masonic. Bruce
Coldstreamer Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 no probs - just a quick trim of the image and convert to web format - old program that's years old but I like it and it does the job
Khaki Posted 17 September , 2013 Posted 17 September , 2013 Centurion and Bruce are right, the 'clasp' is the suspender of the Knights past President Medal of the order of the Buffalo's. I cannot explain why it should be attached to the VM, as sometimes Masonic devices are, in this case, in itself, the clasp is not symbolic of the Buffalo's lodge. khaki
roselyn2 Posted 17 September , 2013 Author Posted 17 September , 2013 Thank you all for your help. Lyn.
