The medals were also accompanied by an original framed double page spread from The Illustrated Police News which illustrated your great uncle's exploits.

Cheers Stephen, that's good because, as the photos suggest, the original was/is in pretty poor shape.

Just been looking more into the history of William Armstead and amazed to see a picture of him with his medals. But even more the story of his escape in the Illustrated Police News shown in the paper. Thank you for putting the info on this site. It would have taken me quite a while to find all that. The three great, great, great nephews will be very interested in William's story in pictures. 

Thank you again, and in memory of all those brave men of WW1.
