nthornton1979 Posted 11 April , 2017 Share Posted 11 April , 2017 The medals were also accompanied by an original framed double page spread from The Illustrated Police News which illustrated your great uncle's exploits.

nthornton1979 Posted 11 April , 2017 Share Posted 11 April , 2017 Cheers Stephen, that's good because, as the photos suggest, the original was/is in pretty poor shape. Neil (not Nick)
Stephen Nulty Posted 11 April , 2017 Share Posted 11 April , 2017 I knew that really - why did I write Nick? Senior moment, clearly :-)

Bluefoot Posted 22 November , 2017 Share Posted 22 November , 2017 Just been looking more into the history of William Armstead and amazed to see a picture of him with his medals. But even more the story of his escape in the Illustrated Police News shown in the paper. Thank you for putting the info on this site. It would have taken me quite a while to find all that. The three great, great, great nephews will be very interested in William's story in pictures. Thank you again, and in memory of all those brave men of WW1.
