John Cubin Posted 31 August , 2013 Share Posted 31 August , 2013 Anyone care to enlighten me as to the purpose of this shell case which I picked up recently at an antiques fair. It measures 2 inches at the mouth and stands 161/4 inches tall.

TonyE Posted 31 August , 2013 Share Posted 31 August , 2013 It appears to be a case for the 3 pr. Vickers Mark I Naval gun. (VICKERS I) See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordnance_QF_3_pounder_Vickers Your case was originally loaded with a reduced charge and has been reloaded twice, also with a reduced charge (C.RRR) at Royal Laboratory (RL). It has also been annealed between loadings ("A" in circle with stab marks) The other stamps are the original loading date (14 11 12), Naval acceptance (N Broad Arrow) and inspectors stamps (B 24 etc) Regards TonyE
