Extract from Westlake's 'Battalions on the Somme'

8th (Service) Battalion (East Belfast). 107th Brigade, 36th (Ulster) Division:

In reserve moved forward from Aveluy Wood and assembled in Thiepval Wood (1/7) - heavy casualties from shelling and machine gun fire from Thiepval. Advanced across No Man's Land under tremendous bombardment and fire - hand-to-hand fighting at Schwaben Redoubt. Relieved (2/7) - withdrew through Thiepval Wood and back to billets at Martinsart.

the following map is German, Schwaben Redoubt is marked with a red dot.
