A Few German Cartridges

Good morning,

I have a few more Cartridges that need Identification.

All of them came from an excavation not far from a Bedouin camp , near the Town Kuseife, in The negev Desert.

They also conclude all WWI finds from the site.

No.1 and 2 were both made by Polte, Magdeburg in January (1 16) and April 1916 (4 16) respectively.

No.3 was made by Metallwerke G.Goeggi & Sohn, Munich-Moosach (GM) in February 1917 (2 17)

No.4 was made by Ammunition Factory Kassel ( C) in ? 1917. The segment lines mean that the bullet has a cannelure for added securement in the case and is for machine guns.

In all cases the "S67" means the "S" case made from brass with 67% Copper.

Thank You Tony,

at my first post I asked to Id some of the Cartridges that were found in the site:

http://1914-1918.inv...pic=191612&st=0

they were found in two caves just off the main road and below a Bedouin camp.

I can't find any mention of fighting there in 1917, although the site is close to a water source.

The last cartridge that i posted now had it's primer removed (probably for use in a different weapon)

and i have a cartridge (in the old post FNM 71-17) that is 7.92X57 from 1971.

these two are 25% of the cartridges in the site.

I suspect that the weapons and ammunition fired in the cave or it's vicinity were looted in WWI by the Bedouins and were fired for practice/ wedding/ celebrations or just for fun. so to add to the mixture i have a Turkish Peabody cartridge (also in the old post).

i just wonder what happened to the guns especially to the old Turkish Peabody (also in the old post).
