Remembered Today:

Can anyone ID this bit of (presumed) ordnance?

We found this in a hedge on the Rue De Courcellette a couple of miles into the fields outside Grandcourt (we didn't touch it!). It was about six inches long. Any help gratefully received. Presuming some sort of shell?

Thanks and best wishes

'Charley'.

Looks like the remains of the body of an 18 pdr shrapnel shell. British anyway because of the width of the drive band (now absent!). - SW

It looks like the bae of a shrapnel shell with the driving bands removed. Most likely an 18 Pr.
