Terry Posted 14 September , 2004 Share Posted 14 September , 2004 A short while back I mentioned a trio to a fellow whose original number was 2810, but later was renumbered 805181. Through the efforts of Ian Bowbrick and Dick Flory, it appeared that my man had been with the 2nd Brigade North Midlands Division TF, and he had then gone to France with 231 Brigade,RFA (46th Division) in March,1915. Today I received from Jonathan Collins his MIC, and his date of entry is listed as 26 Feb.,1915, which is close enough to March to be probably OK. My question concerns the notation beside his victory medal. It states: RFA/140th/TF Does anyone know what "140th" might indicate?

ororkep Posted 17 February , 2007 Share Posted 17 February , 2007 Terry, Be careful as I suspect if its directly to the right of the VM it is just the reference for looking up the actual Medal Roll itself at the NA. Post a jpeg of it to be certain. 231 Bde RFA went out to France as 2nd North Midlands 46 Div, they were designated 231 on 14/5/16 so are one and the same. They left England on the 25th Feb 1915 so your DOE is spot on. Regards Paul
