Remembered Today:

thoughts on this Greek victory medal?

I found this at an antique store in Athens today, and wanted to get some opinions on it. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, but I couldn't get the lighting just right. You can see in one of the pictures that the designer's name is inside the rim, rather than on it, and is in all capital letters. Based on everything I can find, this is the rarest version of the Greek medal. Does anyone know if this is the case?

I paid 50 Euros for it (the seller conveniently upping the price from 40 after I handed him a 50 and asked for change), and thought that was actually a good price, since I see these online regularly for $150-200 US.

It might help if I actually include the pictures...though one of them turned out to be too big to attach, and I can't make it smaller since I'm posting from an iPad.

According to Laslo in the "Interallied Victory Medal of World War 1" this is described as the unofficial type 1 with the designer's name "HENRY NOCQ" in capitals rather that "Henry NOCQ" on the official issue.

Laslo does comment that the all capital version was manufactured by Canale and was possibly included in the medals distributed by the Greek Government. He does, however, go on to state that the Greek Government still had large quantities of the official issue in 1982.

Hope this helps
