Moonraker Posted 28 June , 2013 Share Posted 28 June , 2013 Interesting man and interesting memoir. Worth reading for an unusual "take" by a German on the causes of the war. He appears to have been well thought of by some members at least of the British establishment. When Lichnowsky returned to Germany a military guard of honour saluted his departure from Harwich, surely a rare privilege in the circumstances? The Times of August 7, p3 has a good account of diplomats and staff leaving the German embassy and reported that at Harwich "the crowd maintained a silent and respectful attitude".
