Remembered Today:

Siemens machine guns

I've come across a reference to a Siemens machine gun with a rate of fire of 1,400 rpm. 2 Albatross DVa s were experimentally fitted with them. Does anyone know more? Were they only intended as an airborne weapon?

Fore runner of the Chain Guns, but driven by the engine! The forum in post 2 has some interesting information. 1,400 rounds per min, firing through, perhaps a four bladed prop, doing, perhaps, 500 rpm would suggest that there would be around 2,000 opportunities per minute for the gun to fire. I suppose a mechanism geared from the prop shaft would be possible. That forum does not go into detail.

There is a rather dark picture of a Siemans in Musgrave's "German machine Guns" and Chinn gives more details in his work (Volume 3 I think).
