centurion Posted 16 June , 2013 Share Posted 16 June , 2013 I've come across a reference to a Siemens machine gun with a rate of fire of 1,400 rpm. 2 Albatross DVa s were experimentally fitted with them. Does anyone know more? Were they only intended as an airborne weapon?
arboskittler Posted 16 June , 2013 Share Posted 16 June , 2013 There's some discussion on this forum link which may assist? http://www.theaerodr...uns-fitted.html Cheers, Andy.
Old Tom Posted 21 June , 2013 Share Posted 21 June , 2013 Fore runner of the Chain Guns, but driven by the engine! The forum in post 2 has some interesting information. 1,400 rounds per min, firing through, perhaps a four bladed prop, doing, perhaps, 500 rpm would suggest that there would be around 2,000 opportunities per minute for the gun to fire. I suppose a mechanism geared from the prop shaft would be possible. That forum does not go into detail. Old Tom
TonyE Posted 22 June , 2013 Share Posted 22 June , 2013 There is a rather dark picture of a Siemans in Musgrave's "German machine Guns" and Chinn gives more details in his work (Volume 3 I think). Regards TonyE
