I am trying to establish if my uncle Goerge Bannister was part of the crew on HMS Warspite. My mother who is 86 years of age seems to think he was aboard this ship. He went on to serve inWW2 aboard the Effingham and Renown.

I know this is the wrong forum but my mother thinks the Effingham took a German ship as a 'prize' in WW2

Any help would be most greatful

The best way of being sure is to get his Service Papers. Your mother, as a direct next-of-kin, can apply to have a copy of them. You need to send as much detail as you can such as date and place of birth etc.
