hen190782 Posted 25 May , 2013 Share Posted 25 May , 2013 Good Afternoon I am working with Orangelil who is managing the Castleton Lantern Project (http://castletonlant...=lantern-slides) I have cropped insignia/patch/badge details from several of the slides and am looking for help to identify what they mean - apologies in advance for the quality! There will be another couple of topics with other images. Ref 26 RHS - Service stripes? What does insignia above stripes indicate? Ref 30 LHS - Insignia above Sgt stripes? Ref 34 LHS - Wound Stripe? What does insignia above stripe indicate? Ref 69 LHS - Insignia meaning? Thanks Nigel

Peter Zieminski Posted 27 May , 2013 Share Posted 27 May , 2013 Nigel - I'm afraid that's beyond my sphere of knowledge - David (aka GRUMPY) has a wealth of knowledge on insignia and may be able to assist further - Good luck!
Graham Stewart Posted 27 May , 2013 Share Posted 27 May , 2013 Peter Thanks - does the fancy cording at the bottom of the sleeve help to identify Artillery regiment? Nigel No - the knot was worn through out the Artillery and is infact yellow, but it always comes out dark in sepia.

FROGSMILE Posted 28 May , 2013 Share Posted 28 May , 2013 I agree with Peter's exceelent interpretations with the sole exception of the artilleryman. Today the badge is indeed just for gunnery staff, but at that time it was also a gunnery prize badge when worn on the left arm. From memory I think it is best battery, but I will need to check. Attached is the modern version of the badge.
