Remembered Today:

Centenary in Belgium

Hi Carl,

I know there will be regional ceremonies but I think it's a shame they don't do anything nationally on the 22/08/2014 to commemorate the greatest single day's French losses of the war (26,000 killed), most of whom fell on Belgian soil (but then it may mean considering the atrocities !?)

It is still possible to introduce projects for commemoration so ....

I know that there is a project (across the linguistic borders !) working on the villes martyrs/martelaarssteden so the atrocities will be adressed

There is nothing to saynthat there won't be anything on 22 August. It only mentions that there will be something from August to December.

Possibly, they are expecting the French to commemorate that battle. I know that I will be in France this year on 22 August (and just on the Belgian border), spo I will try to remember to ask the mayor whether they are doing anything special in 1914.

Thanks for the link, I have been wondering if there will be a special event for the centenary of the Zeebrugge Raid. Will keep an eye on this site. Regards, Michael Bully
