leefer Posted 10 May , 2013 Share Posted 10 May , 2013 (edited) A friend has posed me a question...but gave me no photo so i wonder if any of you can help me. On the R.A.M.C world war 1 medal it has his name and rank but no service number...just the number 8....is this normal...is the number 8 greatly relevant? Thanks for any help and to you good people who know your stuff inside out i apologise if the answer seems simple. Thanks... Lee. Jim Strawbridge Posted 11 May , 2013 Share Posted 11 May , 2013 I don't see how Dundeesown came up with Adcock as being the recipient of the medal to the RAMC from the information given. As with most Corps each subunit had it's own service numbers starting from one. In my collection I have a victory medal to 8 PTE. E. CLARKSON. R.A.M.C. Using the MICs and searching service number 8 for the RAMC the first page shows 14 with that service number. That's just the first page and there are 4 pages so we are talking of about 50 soldiers with service number 8 in the RAMC.

Arnhem44 Posted 11 May , 2013 Share Posted 11 May , 2013 There's a fifty page record on Ancestry which I believe to be Augustus Corbett's from Cardiff, he served with the m.e.f but only spent two months overseas from 19/7/15 to 23/9/15 and was returned home suffering from dysentery and then had a number change to 377008, was in reserve from 11/2/18 till 4/4/19. Finished up on 31/3/20. Regards Brendan
