Guest stevenbec Posted 10 September , 2004 Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Mates, Do you have any record of this officer who I shown captured on the 19th March 1918 with 1 Sqn AFC. He may or may not be Australian as I can find not record of any Aussie officer by that name in 1 Sqn. I was thinking the name may be wrong as a Lt OM Lee was captured that day with 1 Sqn AFC with Capt Austin trying to pick up a downed RAF pilot which all three were captured. Any insight would be interesting. S.B
Dolphin Posted 10 September , 2004 Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Steve 'The Sky Their Battlefield' doesn't list a Lt D H Lea, but does include Lt O M Lee. The latter was the observer in Bristol Fighter B1128 of No 1 Sqn AFC, flown by Capt R A Austin, when they were taken prisoner on 19 March 1918 after landing to assist Capt A J Evans of No 142 Sqn RFC, who had been forced to land with engine trouble when flying Martinsyde G102 Elephant A3960. A wheel on the Bristol broke while landing, thereby stranding all three airmen behind Turkish lines. I hope that this helps. Gareth
