dutch701 Posted 29 April , 2013 Share Posted 29 April , 2013 Hello guys, I am looking out for the above cap badges for a small tribute i am putting together in memorey of my gt grandfather who lost his life at the battle of Givenchey on the 12,sept,1916. Would i be right in believing that the plynths under the sphinxes would have been left blank on both of these regiments cap badges. If so what should i be looking for when seeking them out on ebay and so, so i get the right ones. Any info, images would be much apprieciated . best regards Shane
CROONAERT Posted 29 April , 2013 Share Posted 29 April , 2013 I can only speak for the 4th East Lancs, but, in their case, yes... there was no 'Egypt' (officially). However, in reality, a great majority were issued with the standard East Lancs badge with the 'Egypt' included. (My relative who served (and died) with the 5th East Lancs was issued with a blank plynthed badge when he first enlisted in 1914, but actually went overseas wearing the standard East Lancs badge). Either badge would be correct in a display for a 1916 casualty as he was likely to have had both at some point or other. Dave
CROONAERT Posted 29 April , 2013 Share Posted 29 April , 2013 Below (along with my relative's actual badge that he sent home when he obtained a replacement 'standard' badge before going on active service) is also illustrated the correct shoulder title for the 4th, though I believe that this may have been dropped by many for the standard version at some point too... dutch701 Posted 30 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 30 April , 2013 Thanks Dave, thats great, I was watching one similar to this on ebay but it was made out of all brass , it had lugs to the rear and not a slider . What type of fixing does your badge have? Shane
