kevinL Posted 27 April , 2013 Share Posted 27 April , 2013 A request from my brother, could anyone identify this unusual conicular bullet case found in Authuille woods. I've tried searching on the internet and it doesn't seem to conform to the normal stuff i've seen like british enfield 303, french lebel, german mauser, etc. It has a very small neck end to it where the projectile sat. I make it just a fraction over 6mm. The rim base is 13mm. Overall case length is 56.75mm. The only head stamp marks i can make out are:- VII B 5 http://s1366.photobucket.com/user/kevin7361/library/unidentified%20spent%20round%20from%20Authuille%20woods kind regards, kevin. Ice Tiger Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 Agree with Tim & the location would also point to this being likely Andy
TonyE Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 It is actually the initiator for the Toffee Apple fuze. It is a variation of the normal .303 inch case made from rejected ball cases. Your headstamp is "B15 VII" meaning it was originally intended as a Ball Mark VII made by Birmingham Metals and Munitions Co. in 1915.
