Jack Sheldon Posted 26 April , 2013 Share Posted 26 April , 2013 Interesting. Much the same occurred during descriptions of the Polygon Wood fighting of 11 Nov 14. The Germans could not get their heads around the fact that the Scots Guards were not kilted - and both sides much preferred to describe their battles with 'guards' regiments, whether they were or not. Weejanie1 Posted 28 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 28 April , 2013 Thanks Marjorie Was able to read that no problem. Thanks for going to the Bother of tracking that down. I can see how having hundreds Of kilted Scots coming at you would strike fear into the heart of any enemy.xx Kindest regards Jane x
Steven Broomfield Posted 28 April , 2013 Share Posted 28 April , 2013 I suspect quite a few of their friends found the sight moderately off-putting, too.

I can also recall an account somewhere of men of the 51st stripping off their kilts during a hot summer, blacking their faces, donning light shirts and going out to raid German trenches - that must have raised some eyebrows in the opposing trenches! If I find the account I will post it.
