Interwar shell from a Medium II Tank? Normally fitted with a 2 pounder but some had a 3 pounder for support purposes

are you sure its qf 3 pr and not qf13 pr?

Dave

Given the dimensions that sounds more likely

it is an empty 13 Pr, hence weight of only 7 lbs.

If its calibre is 3.25", it's not a 13 pr., which was of 3" calibre.

An 18 pr. had a calibre of 3.3"

Could the worn '3' be the right hand half of an '8', with the preceding '1' lost or failed to stamp?

I've been caught out trying to scale off those before.

It needs to be at similar distance from the camera as the dimension to be scaled, or lens effects play the cat an' banjo with accuracy.
