Riding shotgun Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Hi Can anyone shed any light on the picture attached please. It was taken just outside Dunstable but no idea who it is, Most of the Cap badges are covered with a bandage? The badge could possibly be the General Service Corps but not sure to be honest. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Colin
Old Owl Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Could be Yeomanry and if Dunstable, Bedford Yeomanry, although the badges are indistinct--at least those that are on show!
Blackblue Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 They may be Officer Cadets, signified by the white cap band. Then again some do seem to have spurs and seem too old. Someone local may be able to shed some light on who they are. Rgds Tim D
pbrydon Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Probably just a coincidence but these are members of the Liverpool Irish on manoevres but interesting that the photo the subject of the thread has an "H" prefix to the photo number and mine has a "J" prefix. Blackblue Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Maybe signifying OPFOR etc?
Staffsyeoman Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Agree with Blackblue. These aren't Officer Cadet bands (seem to be too many of them) but are rather 'Opposing Forces' for use in exercises. Could be bright red, or yellow.
SteveE Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Could be bright red, or yellow. Or White? September 1913 saw a major exercise between 'Brown' (Regulars) and 'White' (Territorials) forces in the UK covering the counties of Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire. I daresay the images shown are likely to have been from those manoeuvres. Wikipedia has this to say... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Manoeuvres_of_1913 but other references/articles can be found in a number of newspapers including The Times. Chester837 Posted 3 April , 2013 Share Posted 3 April , 2013 Ah, an early appearance of those dastardly 'orange' forces
