steve fuller Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Hi all I was working on the 7th Beds diaries last night and noticed 2 Privates were awarded the 'Belgian Cross de ...' (sounded like a medal he'd have been proud of) and a French medal that didnt sound quite so grand - the name escapes me. I wandered: 1. How would that have been earned? i.e. what would mere Private have to do to earn a national award from another country? 2. Would it be on their MIC's, as although theyre 'Allies' I havent seen any medals mentioned on MIC's other than Brit ones? I believe the 7th spent a fair bit of their tours near the French Army boundary, so maybe they were involved in something that pleased the French?? They were congratulated 'for gallantry' amongst other things by French Generals after Op Michael ...
Neil Burns Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Foreign Awards Thread Hi Steve, Here is a prior thread on this topic unfortunately it's very difficult to trace exactly why a foreign award was awarded though they are sometimes mentioned in the unit histories. Take care, Neil By the way it is most likely the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
